ASIA
AFGHANISTAN: 40 KILLED IN SUICIDE BOMBING AT WEDDING

Asia News report: At least 77 injured. The explosion occurred in the area reserved to men. Many of them are policemen or members of local militias fighting the Taliban.

Kandahar (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A suicide attack during a wedding party has killed at least 40 people, injuring 77. The attack took place yesterday evening in the Arghandab district, north of Kandahar, an area infested with Taliban and where for months foreign troops have been trying to fight them.
Police sreport that many of the wedding guests were local policemen or members of local militias who fought against the Taliban. The explosion occurred in the section reserved for men.
Initially, the guests had thought they were victims of a raid by multinational forces. Today the government in Kabul confirmed the attack was a suicide bombing.
In the war that has plagued Afghanistan since 2001, thousands of civilians have died because of violence and Taliban attacks. But the soldiers of the multinational force have also killed hundreds of civilians, either mistaking them for insurgents or errors made in air raid attacks.

AMERICA
USA: WINDOWS WILL KEEP PORN OFF PHONE 7 MARKETPLACE

Life Site News report: Following Apple's lead in trying to keep pornography off its iPad and iPhone products, Microsoft has announced a new set of policies for the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace that will not allow porn or sexually suggestive content.

The application certification requirements for Windows Phone 7 program developers states that Microsoft will no longer allow content such as "Images that are sexually suggestive or provocative, Content that generally falls under the category of pornography, or Content that a reasonable person would consider to be adult or borderline adult content."
In February, Apple began blocking "adult" applications and sexually suggestive screen shots from its online stores in response to "numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content."
In May Apple CEO Steve Jobs said his company would not be a party to the pornography industry and hoped that the iPad and iPhone revolution would help create a porn-free world.
"We do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone. Folks who want porn can buy [an] Android phone,” Jobs said, referring to the product of competitor Google, which has permitted a pornography store app for its smartphone.

AFRICA
SOUTH AFRICA: CATHOLIC CHURCH ORGANIZES PEACE CUP

Agenzia Fides REPORT- "We want to involve all South Africans in the world, especially those who remain on the margins of this event," Antoine Soubrier of the Communications Office for the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference (SACBC) told Fides. "So, we've organized a parallel World Cup, to compliment the official one, with the soccer teams from all the realities of South Africa, from the townships to the more affluent neighborhoods."

“The aim is to bring together fans of different social classes, different ethnicities, and national origins as well as fans from all over the world. This Soccer Peace Tournament has an international dimension. 64 players from about 15 countries will play every Saturday at 9.00 am from June 5th to July 3rd in the poorest part of the Township, on a locally designed football pitch. Four teams will be created out of the two best teams of Atteridgeville (Pretoria) and migrants living in South Africa and fans coming for the World Cup. The final will take place on July 3rd,” said Soubrier.

"In this way the South Africans can get to know each other better. In the last tournament, there were white South Africans who set foot for the first time in a township. And the results are very positive. We place much hope in this initiative to promote peace and understanding among all," says Soubrier.

"Among the participants there are also immigrants and refugees living in South Africa in a difficult situation. Several fans from countries such as France, the United States and Turkey have applied to join the Peace Tournament and the life of the local church during their stay in South Africa. We are confident that this will bring new spiritual wealth to South Africa, throughout Africa and the rest of the world," says Antoine Soubrier. EUROPE
ENGLAND: MIDSUMMER TEA PARTY TO RAISE MONEY FOR HISTORIC CHURCHES

Idependant Catholic News report: Midsummer Tea Party, a novel fundraising weekend of tea and cake hosted by the Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches at risk, takes place over 18 – 20 June. More than 100 of England’s most spectacular and nationally significant historic churches, including those left deserted by the plague, will be revealing their spine-tingling histories and showing how they can be enjoyed by people today. All events are free and range from Bolton’s predominately Muslim community raising funds for All Soul’s Bolton through to tours of the Shropshire church blown up by Oliver Cromwell’s troops.
The magnificent churches involved in Midsummer Tea Party are no longer used for regular worship but are among the most spectacular in the country - all classified as having exceptional national historic significance. The aim of Midsummer Tea Party is to encourage everyone, of any faith or none, to discover and explore these remarkable buildings and find out how they can be saved for future generations by bringing them back into everyday use. Examples range from circus schools and theatres to community centres and nurseries.
Each event will be a quintessential summer tea party – unique to the communities that create them. Events are free and suitable for all ages. Visitors are asked to contribute for the splendid tea and cake laid on. Experts will be available to bring the history of the buildings to life and tell people how they can be used today. Saving historic churches
Historic churches, keepers of the nation’s history and iconic features of our towns and cities are at risk. Since 1969 more than 300 historic churches have been demolished and 1700 more have been closed and converted into houses and offices – lost to the nation forever.
The Churches Conservation Trust saves historic churches at risk by bringing them back into everyday use. The charity cares for 340 churches, the largest single collection of historic churches in the country. It repairs the damage from sometimes years of neglect, and works with local communities to bring them alive again. On average it costs £12,000 per annum to maintain a historic church and approximately £250,000 to repair and conserve a new church vested to the Trust and make it suitable for contemporary use. The charity must raise an additional £1.5m per year to meet its funding shortfall and continue to protect these historic churches for the nation and enable people use them today.
Loyd Grossman, Chairman, Churches Conservation Trust, said: “We want people to give in to cake temptation and head down to their local Midsummer Tea Party to find out why Historic Churches rock and how they be enjoyed today. From rehearsal spaces for bands and circus schools to places for quiet contemplation – these remarkable buildings are here for everyone’s benefit.
“We also want people to take part. If you fancy sharing your cake creations with the world, check out our website and get in touch with a local event – and get baking!”
Crispin Truman, Chief Executive, Churches Conservation Trust, said: “We have a target to raise £1.5m more each year. We have been affected by government cuts and with the tough economic climate ahead we’re calling on local communities of all faiths to help us protect these beautiful buildings for the benefit of local people, their future generations and the nation.”
Money raised through the Midsummer Tea Party will go towards the Trust’s conversation and regeneration projects. These range from conserving rare 13th wall paintings, restoring the Church used by Charles Dickens through to sensitive modernisation of church buildings to enable contemporary use.

AUSTRALIA
NEW CEMETERY WILL BE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Cath News report: The Catholic Cemeteries Board's new burial ground at Sydney's Kemps Creek, set to open this month, will meet a growing demand for environmentally-friendly burials and "return the body to the earth" in a way that allows it to decompose naturally.

There will be no grave stones, instead, a GPS locator placed in the coffin will help loved ones find their deceased, reports the Daily Telegraph.
"The aim is to return the body to the earth in a way that allows the body to recycle naturally and does not inhibit decomposition, making it more sensitive to nature," CEO of the Catholic Cemeteries Board Michael McMahon is quoted saying.
"The park will look very natural, just grass and trees.
"The deceased person's loved ones will then be able to locate the burial site with a GPS or their mobile phone.
"The person being buried must be in bio-degradable clothing and the body will be prepared without chemical preservatives or disinfectants."
Coffins will be untreated pine, wicker or jute.
The site will fit 300 graves, about a metre apart, the report added.

TODAY´S SAINT

St. Getulius & Companions

MARTYRS
Feast: June 10

Information: Feast Day: June 10

Died: 120 AD

Major Shrine: Sant'Angelo in Pescheria, Rome
Martyr with Amantius, Caerealis, and Primitivus during the reign of Emperor Hadrian (r. 117-138). He was the husband of St. Symphorosa. An officer in the Roman army, he resigned when he became a Christian and returned to his estates near Tivoli, Italy. There he converted Caerealis, the imperial legate sent to arrest him. With his brother Amantius and with Caerealis and Primitivus, Getulius was tortured and martyred at Tivoli. The significance of the conversion rests in part upon the fact that the emperor himself owned a large and famous estate in the same area, an indication of how the Christian faith had established itself among the ranks of the wealthy patrician class of the empire.

TODAY´S GOSPEL

Matthew 5: 20 - 26

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

21 "You have heard that it was said to the men of old, `You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.'

22 But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, `You fool!' shall be liable to the hell of fire.

23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,

24 leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

25 Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison;

26 truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.
