Translators are currently translating it into various languages and it's expected to hit bookstores next spring. The third volume will be dedicated to the "Infancy Gospels". Throughout most of July, the Holy Father held no private or general audiences, which will recommence in August, but he has continued the appointment with the faithful on Sunday for the Angelus in the courtyard of the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo.

SOUTH AMERICA
VENEZUELA TO HOST 4TH NATIONAL CONGRESS OF HOLY CHILDHOOD

Agenzia Fides REPORT – The diocese of San Carlos de Venezuela-Cojedes will host from 11 to 15 August, the 4th National Congress of Missionary/Holy Childhood and Adolescence (CONIAM) which will have the theme “Holiness: the joy of being missionary disciples ”. The invitation sent to Fides reads: in the wake of the 4th American Mission Congress (CAM 4) and the Continental Mission, missionary children and young people of Venezuela of the third millennium will gather together to then go out to every corner of our country to bear witness to the faithful love of God the Father, as a contribution to the Continental Mission.

In the document of Aparecida the Bishops of Latin America affirmed that childhood and adolescence are the first stage of life and a marvellous time for sharing the faith and therefore we too, like children, must welcome children as the beloved of the Kingdom, and valorise the missionary ability of children and adolescents, so they may evangelise not only their companions, but also parents, other relations and the whole community. “It is urgent in Venezuela today, to form new generations of missionary disciples from an early age, because it is in childhood and adolescence that consciences are formed and children learn values which will guide them all through life ”.

The principal goal of the Congress is to spread awareness among children and adolescents of Venezuela of the missionary duty assumed at baptism to be missionary disciples, to live with Jesus the joy of holiness and to announce the Gospel from Venezuela to the whole world. The Congress is for children aged 9 to 15 who are active members of the Pontifical Mission Society of Missionary / Holy Childhood.

AMERICA
USA: BISHOP´S CONFERENCE SENDS OVER $200, 000 MORE TO HAITI

USCCB report: U.S. Bishops Send More Help to the Church in Haiti

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Bishops’ Subcommittee dedicated to administering money raised for Haiti after the earthquake there last January has approved $212,700 of funding for 10 projects. The grants were made from the Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America to programs and agencies sponsored by parishes, religious orders and dioceses in Haiti. These grants do not include funding for construction projects, which will be considered according to a separate procedure. (DAMAGED HAITIAN CHURCH PICTURED)
“Given the nature of the quake, you can say that the entire Church was impacted by the devastation —even though some areas were obviously harder hit than others,” Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami, chairman of the bishops’ Advisory Group for Haiti, said. The funds will be directed to the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince and the Dioceses of Jacmel, Les Cayes, Port-de-Paix and Anse-a-Veau et Miragoane.
The Diocese of Jacmel, which was particularly hard hit, will receive funding for a truck to help in removing rubble from Church premises. Grants also were awarded for a program to train religious personnel and seminarians and adult literacy programs in the Diocese of Port-de-Paix—the poorest diocese in the poorest country in the hemisphere. Additionally, funds will be provided to assist with on-going evangelization programs in affected areas and parts of the country that have seen an increase in the Catholic population.
“During our visits since the earthquake, we have constantly assured the people of the Church that we will be with them in the long run,” said advisory group member, Cardinal Sean O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston. The Boston archdiocese donated more than $2 million to the U.S. Bishops’ special collection for Haiti.
The special collection was taken up in U.S. dioceses immediately after the quake and has raised more than $80 million for Haiti. These latest grants bring the total awarded by the subcommittee to Church groups in Haiti to $1,021,869. “We are doing our best to ensure that the funds donated are used for reliable projects that will provide tangible relief for ordinary Catholics in Haiti,” said Haitian-American Bishop Guy Sansaricq, Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn and also a member of the advisory group.

AFRICA
LIBERIA: NATION CELEBRATES 163RD YEAR OF LIBERTY BY GOD´S COMMAND

All Africa report: As momentum is gears -up for the celebration of the Country's 163rd independence, couple with the pronouncement by the government of Liberia that Father Robert Tikpor, of the Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia is the orator for the festival in Nimba County, a local Church Pastor is calling on the country leadership to rethink on the purpose for which the nation was established.

Apostle Frederick Ato Williams, General Overseer of Champion Faith International Ministry of God, said the Country was going through all of these calamities because the leadership has turned the Country into a circular state, disregarding the intention of God for the Country.
Apostle Williams, a Ghanaian national, made a revelation recently and said God is annoyed with the changing of the Country from Christian nation to a non- Christian Nation.
"This is why you are experiencing the many troubles. But God is about to do a new thing in this Land. The only thing that he wants from you now is to go back to his intended purpose." he narrated.
Apostle Williams made the statement during a press conference on Wednesday July 21, 2010, at his Church's compound on the Capitol Bye- Pass, in Monrovia.
Apostle Williams who quoted part of the Country's National Anthem as a defense to his statement saying "Long Live Liberia, Happy home of glorious Liberty by God's command. In union strong success is sure we cannot fail with God above our rights to prove, we will overall prevail."
According to him, the National Anthem was an inspiration of God's divine plan and purpose for the upliftment of his chosen Nation.
"You don't know that you have been blessed by God, but you are allowing the devil to steal away you joy and happiness." he warned Liberians.
He added that the trouble of the Country begun after the military under the command of the Late Samuel Doe, when he changed the constitution in 1985, making the Nation a circular state.
He stressed that, if the country refused to listen to his prophecy, God will rise up people who will follow his word from outside the covenant nation to bring back his glory.
"I've been waiting for this opportunity to announce this prophecy, because God is above to visit this nation once more, and bring his peace upon it" he concluded.

AUSTRALIA
PETITION WITH 52, 000 SIGNATURES GOES TO PARLIAMENT SUPPORTS CATECHISTS

Cath News report: A petition supporting catechists' work on scripture classes, with more than 52,000 signatures - including from 37,000 Catholics throughout NSW - has been tabled in the NSW Parliament.

The Catholic Weekly reports that Jude Hennessy, organiser of the Church's contribution to the petition, said the Catholic signatures were combined with those from other denominations to give key politicians on both sides of politics "a very strong indication of the level of support for the way Scripture classes are currently conducted".
Speaking on behalf of Bishop Peter Ingham, Bishop of Wollongong, Mr Hennessy said the position of the Church remains "firm on the ethics classes". The arguments brought to bear in the mainstream media "fail to recognise some simple facts" about the current provisions for SRE.
"Ethics classes were an overreaction to a school management issue," said Mr Hennessy, director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine in the Wol longong diocese.
"So much has been made of claims that non-SRE students are twiddling their thumbs in what equates to around 30 minutes a week of time set aside for SRE."
He said existing guidelines sufficiently provide for useful activity non-SRE for students during that time, and that the government should have first ensured that this was being followed.
"The ethics classes should be run outside SRE time so that children of all faith, non-faith and cultural backgrounds are able to participate in them together."

TODAY´S SAINT
St. Charbel Makhlouf

Catholic Saint of the Day Add commentsHe was born May 8, 1828 in the little village of Biqa-Kafra which is situated in the high mountains of northern Lebanon. His parents were poor and he was the last of five children. He was baptised with the name of “Joseph”.

He was raised in a very devout family which fostered piety and love for God. He was a prayerful youth who from his early years learned to detach himself from worldly vanities. He enjoyed his solitude which he used to pray and think about God.
When he was twenty-three years old he decided to leave home to discover his religious vocation as a monk and hermit.
The Lebanese Maronite Order was founded in Lebanon in 1695 and approved by Pope Clement XII in 1732.
He went to the Monastery of Our Lady of Mayfouk at the north of Jebeil. He stayed there for some time until he was transferred to the Monastery of Saint Maroun at Annaya of the Lebanese Maronite Order. He continued his Novitiate until 1853 when he vowed himself to Poverty, Chastity and Obedience, and choosing the name “Charbel”. His vocation was soon to be tested by trial. There were some persons who felt that he did not have a vocation.
His mother and certain members of his family decided that he should return home to his family. They begged him to leave the Monastery — but he refused firmly and persevered in his vocation.
Saint Charbel professed his solemn monastic vows. His Superiors decided to send him to the Monastery of Kfifan. He continued to study theological subjects. He was ordained a priest in 1859. After his ordination he was sent back to the Monastery of Saint Maroun in Annaya. Already he was known for his humility and fidelity to his duty. His lived the virtues like an Angel and was heroic through his perfect obedience, poverty and chastity.
He spent the next sixteen years of his priestly life at Saint Maroun’s. His Superiors discerned that he had the vocation to live the life of a hermit which he so ardently desired. His mortification and self-denial were an edification to all. Consequently, in 1875 Saint Charbel moved into the hermitage of St. Peter and St. Paul located on the property of the Monastery about one mile away.
Saint Charbel had the vocation from God to live his religious life as a hermit. The purpose of religious life is the sanctification of one’s soul through faith, hope and charity. It is no different for the hermit. The means are prayer, manual work, fasting, and detachment from oneself. All of this to an heroic degree. For twenty-three years, Saint Charbel lived the life of a hermit until he died on December 24, 1898.

St. Christiana
Virgin and Martyr
ST. CHRISTINA, Virgin and Martyr.
ST. CHRISTINA was the daughter of a rich and powerful magistrate named Urbain. Her father, who was deep in the practices of heathenism, had a number of golden idols, which our Saint destroyed, and distributed the pieces among the poor. Infuriated by this act, Urbain became the persecutor of his daughter; he had her whipped with rods and then thrown into a dungeon. Christina remained unshaken in her faith. Her tormentor then had her body torn by iron hooks, and fastened her to a rack beneath which a fire was kindled. But God watched over His servant and turned the flames upon the lookers-on. Christina was next seized, a heavy stone tied about her neck, and she was thrown into the lake of Bolsena, but she was saved by an angel, and outlived her father, who died of spite. Later, this martyr suffered the most inhuman torments under the judge who succeeded her father, and finally was thrown into a burning furnace, where she remained, unhurt, for five days. By the power of Christ she overcame the serpents among which she was thrown; then her tongue was cut out, and afterwards, being pierced with arrows, she gained the martyr's crown at Tyro, a city which formerly stood on an island in the lake of Bolsena in Italy, but was long since swallowed up by the waters. Her relics are now at Palermo in Sicily. http://arsorandi.blogspot.com/2009/07/commemoration-of-st-christiana.html

St. John Boste

PRIEST AND MARTYR
Information: Feast Day: July 24

Born: 1544 at Dufton, Westmoreland, England

Died: 24 July 1594 at Dryburn near Durham, England

Canonized: 1970 by Pope Paul VI
Priest and martyr, b. of good Catholic family at Dufton, in Westmoreland, about 1544; d. at Durham, 24 July, 1594. He studied at Queen's College, Oxford, 1569-72, became a Fellow, and was received into the Church at Brome, in Suffolk, in 1576. Resigning his Fellowship in 1580, he went to Reims, where he was ordained priest, 4 March, 1581, and in April was sent to England. He landed at Hartlepool and became a most zealous missioner, so that the persecutors made extraordinary efforts to capture him. At last, after many narrow escapes, he was taken to Waterhouses, the house of William Claxton, near Durham, betrayed by one Eglesfield [or Ecclesfield], 5 July, 1593. The place is still visited by Catholics. From Durham he was conveyed to London, showing himself throughout "resolute, bold, joyful, and pleasant", although terribly racked in the Tower. Sent back to Durham for the July Assizes, 1594, he behaved with undaunted courage and resolution, and induced his fellow-martyr, Bl. George Swalwell [or Swallowell], a convert minister, who had recanted through fear, to repent of his cowardice, absolving him publicly in court. He suffered at Dryburn, outside Durham. He recited the Angelus while mounting the ladder, and was executed with extraordinary brutality; for he was scarcely turned off the ladder when he was cut down, so that he stood on his feet, and in thatposture was cruelly butchered alive. An account of his trial and execution was written by an eye-witness, Venerable Christopher Robinson, who suffered martyrdom shortly afterwards at Carlisle.
[Note: In 1970, John Boste was canonized by Pope Paul VI among the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, whose joint feast day is kept on 25 October.]

TODAY´S GOSPEL

Matthew 13: 24 - 30

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24 Another parable he put before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field;

25 but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.

26 So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also.

27 And the servants of the householder came and said to him, `Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?'

28 He said to them, `An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, `Then do you want us to go and gather them?'

29 But he said, `No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.'"
