The World Cup in Brazil 2014 has opened a gateway to Christian expression. It must be said, however, that there are many shortcomings to the integration of this sport into the country in terms of exploitation of the poor and trafficking. U.S. World Cup player Clint Dempsey said in interview with Sports Spectrum.
"Today, I pray for strength to walk the road before me," Dempsey said. "I play to the best of my abilities and am thankful for the many opportunities and amazing success He has given me. Through it all, I want to do right, not make mistakes, and live a life that is pleasing to Him."
Dempsey is from a Catholic family who went to church every Sunday.

(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis held his weekly General Audience on Wednesday – the last before the suspension of the event for the summer. The Holy Father dedicated his catechetical reflections to the second installment in his series on the Church. Specifically, Pope Francis focused on the Church’s public and universal nature, and in particular on the importance of belonging to the Church.
Pope Francis discussed three main points in connection with the theme of belonging: that it is impossible to be a Christian “by oneself”; that belonging to the Church means being formed by members who have in their own turn received the faith – that is to say – to be part of a living tradition; that the Church – the community of faith – is the essential and necessary mediator of grace, including the grace of knowledge of and relationship with the Lord.
“There are those who believe you can have a personal, direct, immediate relationship with Jesus Christ outside of the communion and the mediation of the Church,” said Pope Francis. “These are,” he went on to say, “dangerous and harmful temptations.” It was a theme to which he returned in the English-language summary that was read out after his main catechesis in Italian. “Our relationship with Christ is personal but not private; it is born of, and enriched by, the communion of the Church.”
The Holy Father went on to say, “Our shared pilgrimage is not always easy: at times we encounter human weakness, limitations and even scandal in the life of the Church.” Nevertheless, he continued, “God has called us to know him and to love him precisely by loving our brothers and sisters, by persevering in the fellowship of the Church and by seeking in all things to grow in faith and holiness as members of the one body of Christ.”
At the end of the audience, the Holy Father greeted pilgrims from the various language groups, including English speakers, among whom were a delegation from Bethlehem University, which this year celebrates the fortieth anniversary of its establishment. Agenzia Fides report - Sister Clecensia Kapuli, a 50-year-old Tanzanian nun of the Congregation of the Diocese of Mbeya "Our Lady Queen of Apostols, was killed on June 23 during a street robbery in Dar es Salaam, the Country's economic capital. "Sister Clecensia had just left the bank with an amount of money needed to pay the workers who are renovating the secondary school run by her congregation, of which she was the treasurer", local Church sources told Fides. It is not sure what happened. The fact is that the criminals shot and killed the nun and injured the driver. The other sister was able to escape", the sources told Fides.

The high priest Hilkiah informed the scribe Shaphan,
“I have found the book of the law in the temple of the LORD.”
Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who read it.
Then the scribe Shaphan went to the king and reported,
“Your servants have smelted down the metals available in the temple
and have consigned them to the master workmen
in the temple of the LORD.”
The scribe Shaphan also informed the king
that the priest Hilkiah had given him a book,
and then read it aloud to the king.
When the king heard the contents of the book of the law,
he tore his garments and issued this command to Hilkiah the priest,
Ahikam, son of Shaphan,
Achbor, son of Micaiah, the scribe Shaphan,
and the king’s servant Asaiah:
“Go, consult the LORD for me, for the people, for all Judah,
about the stipulations of this book that has been found,
for the anger of the LORD has been set furiously ablaze against us,
because our fathers did not obey the stipulations of this book,
nor fulfill our written obligations.”
The king then had all the elders of Judah
and of Jerusalem summoned together before him.
The king went up to the temple of the LORD with all the men of Judah
and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem:
priests, prophets, and all the people, small and great.
He had the entire contents of the book of the covenant
that had been found in the temple of the LORD, read out to them.
Standing by the column, the king made a covenant before the LORD
that they would follow him
and observe his ordinances, statutes and decrees
with their whole hearts and souls,
thus reviving the terms of the covenant
which were written in this book.
And all the people stood as participants in the covenant.

WILLIAM, having lost his father and mother in his infancy, was brought up by his friends in great sentiments of piety; and at fifteen years of age, out of an earnest desire to lead a penitential life, he left Piedmont, his native country, made an austere pilgrimage to St. James's in Galicia, and afterward retired into the kingdom of Naples, where he chose for his abode a desert mountain, and lived in perpetual contemplation and the exercises of most rigorous penitential austerities. Finding himself discovered and his contemplation interrupted, he changed his habitation and settled in a place called Monte-Vergine, situated between Nola and Benevento, in the same kingdom; but his reputation followed him, and he was obliged by two neighboring priests to permit certain fervent persons to live with him and to imitate his ascetic practices. 60 More Girls Kidnapped in Nigeria by Terrorists - Please Pray
DAILY TRUST/ALLAFRICA REPORT: BY HAMZA IDRIS, 24 JUNE 2014 Maiduguri — Over 60 girls have been abducted by the Boko Haram from Kummabza village of Damboa LGA of Borno State. Some of the girls abducted were between the ages of 3 and 12, Daily Trust heard.
Sources from the village said dozens of Boko Haram fighters armed with Ak47 rifles, rocket propelled grenades and explosive devices took over Kummabza on Wednesday, June 11, killing over 30 men and destroying public buildings including schools and telephone masts. They also took away foodstuff and domestic animals.
Information about the attack emerged yesterday after residents from the area reached Maiduguri and other towns in Adamawa State.
"Elderly men and women who could not flee while the siege lasted remained in the village till Saturday when the situation calmed down. There was no security presence in our village before and even during the onslaught, nobody came to rescue us," a source said.
Another resident who also fled to Maiduguri said the number of women kidnapped is more than 60.
"After taking over the village, the gunmen loaded almost 80 women in some of the trucks they came with and took them to an unknown destination. To me, what happened in Kummabza is worse than what happened in Chibok, even 3-year olds were taken away," he said.
Chairman of the LGA, Alamin Mohammed, did not pick calls and did not respond to a text message. At the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the police or the army.
